Today, Avian Labs announced the beta launch of their first product, Sling. Sling is an app that lets people effortlessly pay anyone globally, in any currency, and without needing any of their bank account information.

Sending money globally remains a challenge, with a lack of affordable and user-friendly solutions. While localized solutions may exist, global options are often costly and burdensome, requiring excessive information about the recipient’s bank account, high fees, or both. Sling is working on filling the gap, delivering a simple, fast, and truly global payment experience. Inspired by the simplicity of sharing photos, messages, or videos online, Sling’s aim is to redefine money transfers for everyone.

“We started Sling because we think the way money works hasn’t caught up with the way the internet works,” said Mike Hudack, co-founder and CEO at Avian Labs. “We built Sling to create a world where sending and receiving money is effortless. Regardless of if someone is standing next to you, or three thousand miles away, you should be able to pay them without needing to ask for so much information, the payment should be instant and it should be basically free.”

All the user has to do to send money is search for a person’s name (no sort codes, account numbers, IBANs needed), enter in the amount they would like to send and choose a currency to send it in. The recipient receives the money almost instantly, and if they don’t have the Sling app, they will receive the money in a matter of minutes via a Sling Link. 

The transfer of money is done using the blockchain, which means the costs are very low and savings can be passed on to users. Transfers will actually be free while Sling is in beta. Though there’s been massive potential with blockchain technology, it has yet to gain widespread adoption, as many people remain unclear about its potential relevance to their lives. Sling has been developed to bring the benefits of blockchain technology to the masses by creating an incredibly user-friendly interface that eliminates the need for extensive understanding of the underlying technology.

The app is currently in beta, and available in 29 countries. To join the beta, download the app on the iOS or Android store and sign up to join the waitlist.
